History of the Lions Club:

In 1917, Melvin Jones, a 38-year-old Chicago business leader, told members of his local business club that they should reach beyond business issues, and address the betterment of their communities and the world.  The Lions Club organization was born.  Within three years of its birth, the Lions became an international organization.   100 years later, Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization, with 1.35 million members in more than 46,000 clubs worldwide, in over 200 countries

Lions’ Mission:

The mission of Lions International is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace, and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.
Lion members volunteer their time to work on projects to improve our communities, all around the world.  Just to name a few, Lion members do projects such as collecting food, clothes, and books and giving it to the children in need; feeding the homeless or visiting the sick; participating in community health programs and projects, to help those who suffers from poverty, homelessness, hunger, abuse, diseases, and disabilities; helping with the constructions of hospitals and schools, orphanages and children's centers; and protecting the environment, such as planting trees.  All of these, because, almost 100 years ago, Melvin Jones simply asked:   What if people put their talents to work improving their communities?

Sacramento Valley Hi Lions and Leo Club:
Now in existence since 1982, the Sacramento Valley Hi Lions and Leo Club (VHLC) continually strive to maintain and expand its programs and offerings to the community.  Through Lionism, each of our club members devotedly volunteer their time to work on humanitarian projects to improve our communities, locally and internationally.
The VHLC strives to continually and tirelessly serve and help alleviate the overwhelming needs and challenges of our community that lingers all around us.  Our utmost goal is serving and helping to improve our community in the areas such as environment, youth/education, health and vision, and hunger.  Each year, we renew our commitment and devotion in assisting individuals and other organizations and foundations in our local and international community.
No doubt our world has difficulties and sufferings within it.

Our MOTTO for the year is: “Do simple acts of kindness so as to make the world that is, a little closer to the world that ought to be.  If we can change one life for the better, we can begin to change the universe.  Regardless of whether we make a dent or not, we can surely make a difference.  One act of kindness at a time; one day at a time; one life at a time.”
